'Wednesday Week' Wednesday to be Followed by Art Walk Thursday

It's 'Wednesday Week' Wednesday. Why not?

With that said, starting tomorrow and going through the end of summer, the ACGT along with other community members will be bringing us the 'Arts Zone Third Thursday Art Walk'. The walk includes four downtown galleries, as well as over twenty local artist studios.

The event is happening between 7-10PM- a full list of participants, along with a ton of other info can be found
here.

Don't Be Fooled By $54 Imitation Toboggan Shirts

Rohn, having full knowledge of everything T shirts, passed this along to me earlier. Seems Chip and Pepper's brand new 'Men's 80's Lines Tee' bears a striking resemblance to Toboggan's quasi-branding graphics. As far as I'm concerned imitation is the highest form of flattery, and I'm sure it's purely coincidental, but it's fun to entertain the idea of a Toboggan influence.
Below are some graphics I've used over the past year, including the background image from Toboggan's Myspace page. Take a look, decide for yourself, and let me know what you think.

Faesthetic Forever

The new issue of the much beloved hometown publication Faesthetic is now available over at Threadless. The 'infinity' themed issue sports some polished digs with cover art from Rad Mountain, along with numerous other artists splattered across 64 pages.

Only $10! When did this happen? WalMart Effect.

Contrary to it's Name, Old West End Actually Makes You Younger

Saturday and Sunday the Old West End will be the place to be. There will be tons of food, artist booths, music, and lawns covered with wonderful junk as far as the eye can see. If you don't have any friends in the OWE, make them quickly- because you might as well camp out for the weekend.

I couldn't find any promotional images for the Festival, so I used an image from last year's festivities and made my own- it best serves as a warning of where compulsive garage saling and bargain hunting can lead by the end of the night.

Detroit Industrial Projects and The Secor Gallery Talk Trash

The Secor is at it again- consistently coming at us with new, interesting exhibits, and worthwhile openings. Artists from Detroit Industrial Projects will be visiting throughout the month of June to collaborate will Toledo-based artists for an installation "representing the connectivity between development and re-urbanism occurring in both Detroit and Toledo. "

The piece will be made using rubble, trash, and found objects from the two cities, so I'm hoping for a giant swimming pool of Toledo Storm gear I'm allowed to swim in. Opening reception is June 14, with music from The Drawers.

Let there be Light

This year the UT Department of Art's Summer lecture series will focus on light. The lectures are usually held on Wednesdays, in the Haigh Auditorium of the Center for the Visual Arts, with the next being May 28th. Free and open to the public, these talks should prove enlightening to both aesthetes and gear heads alike.

Check out the complete Summer schedule
here. And check out the future of the desk lamp here.

'Life, Death, & Art' or 'Like sands through the hourglass... so are the Days of Our Lives'

Happy birthday to Marisol Escobar today (above). Stop by the Museum, where her 'Cocktail Party' can just as easily be a birthday party.

Also today we mourn the death of Robert Rauschenberg. Who, on May 12th, was unfortunately erased from the art world like a de Kooning sketch. Post-abstract expressionism, pre-pop, this man was in a world all his own.

Toboggan: The Right Stuff, Hangin Tough, I'll be Loving You Forever

Not to be out done by The New Kids on the Block, who reunited last week on the Today Show, Toboggan is also back after what had only felt like fifteen years. We have a lot to catch up on- but first, how about a link to that Today show performance.

Toboggan Mix

Since my computer is pretty much dead to me, this first installment of musical stylings was basically determined by the files in the email box (toledotoboggan@gmail.com). But, I didn't want to wait any longer to get up some local music. I know we got tons of local talent, so send me more stuff! It's that simple.

So, with out further ado- KOWONE and Tropical Dudes.

Don't Give Up the Night - Tropical Dudes

PEPSI DREAMS - KNOWONE

Three Scenes of the End

This short film is from Jeff Bloomer. The Oscar nominated Toledoan sweeps you through
'Three Scenes of the End' with heavy textures, surreal imagery, and ink blots.

Toboggan is envious of that killer Arts & Crafts home he's got.

Media Mix Mix-Up!

The ACGT Media Mix is Tomorrow, Saturday the 29th! I've been posting that it's tonight. Sorry for any confusion!

A Beautiful Travis-ty

Trifecta member and former Toboggan notable Julie Shine Webster is teaming up with fellow ceramicist extraordinaire Travis Sanderson for a show at Wesley's tomorrow night (Friday, the 29th).

The pottery partying goes on til' close, with live music from Jason Quick, Chris Knopp and others. More info on Julie's Myspace page.

And being the nice folks they are, Jules and Travis are donating some of the proceeds to The Edith Franklin Pottery Scholarship Fund, so don't spend all your money on drinks.
