So I was flipping through the channels at my sister's house when I came across this. It is a shop at home art auction, set up like a QVC. I did see a Renoir photogravure from 1919 and a Picasso print from the 50's but most of the art was along the lines of Thomas Kinkade. The production value was that of BSCN maybe and the hosts seemed pretty dopey, but I did catch myself watching for awhile.
reBlog posted this last week. Front is a Swedish design group that has managed to make furniture out of thin air. Watch their Youtube video. They call it 'Sketch Furniture' and I would assume this process could be used to make not only furniture but plenty of other crazy things.
There is a new exhibit down at the museum called 'Glassigator'. It coincides with the release of the children's book of the same name. The TMA collaborated with Dan Dailey, a renowned glass blower, on the project. The illustrations from the book are nice, but I would recommend you go just to see the pieces of glass blown by Dan Dailey, all vases, in the shape of different animals' heads.
Another exhibit that opened this weekend at the museum is Building Books: The Art of David Macaulay. You may not recognize his name but you've probably seen his books- Macaulay has been publishing works since Cathedral came out in 1973. Besides winning numerous awards his books are really fun to look at, always trying to explain technical things in the simplest of terms. Both exhibits with also have a book signing coming up in November.
And lastly, at the museum (always lots of stuff going on down there), is a small sculpture by Takashi Murakami. Known for his Superflat style, he has most recently done the cover art for the new Kanye West album, Graduation, as well as an animation for Louis Vuitton (above). The Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, will be having an upcoming exhibit running until February... if any one's going to be in LA that is.
