'This Day in History'- or 'Who the $*!@ is Addie Joss?'

An Addie Joss lunchtime diversion earlier led me to uncover the fact that Joss was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame exactly thirty years ago today. Joss was a professional baseball player that threw like a girl- a girl named Nolan Ryan.

The only player in the hall of fame to have the mandatory ten years of service waived, Joss also boasts the second lowest ERA of all-time. After a fatal bout with tubercular meningitis, baseball's first 'all-star' game was held as a fundraiser for Joss's widow- who know doubt did throw like a girl.

Playing in a time before multi-million dollar sports contracts, Joss made his home here in Toledo as a sports writer, playing for the Mudhens in the 1900 and 1901 seasons. His entire professional career was played in Cleveland. Joss is buried here in Toledo, unbeknownst to pretty much anyone I talk to.
