UPDATE: Oskar Fischinger Still Dead after Forty Years

Well, today I found out why I had such a tough time finding any of Oskar Fischinger's work online the other day (see below). After uploading a short from 1935 I was promptly sent an email from The Fischinger Trust and Archive asking me to take the clip down.

The video lasted a whole seventeen hours online, and I hope each and every one of the eighteen viewers enjoyed it before I had to pull the plug. If you missed it- well, you should be keeping up on you're Toboggan.

Uploading other people's work to YouTube without their permission is not permitted. Not everybody wants to see work in crappy quality.

What happened to respecting an artists' work and intent?

I'm sorry if I offended anyone, and I in no way meant to disrespect the artist. I was simply trying to generate interest where I saw no easily accessible examples.

In the future, I encourage anyone interested in viewing Oskar Fischinger films to buy $30 DVD you know nothing about, or buy a projector and rent them from California.

And again, I apologize.

Not everyone wants to see their work in crappy quality true, but everybody does want people to see their work, in which case free promotion with an accompanying complimentry introduction is a good way to make your art available to the public. But hey if I had the exclusive rights to something I didn't create I would want to monpolize every bit of exposure too, you gotta make a buck somehow right Fischinger Trust and Archive.

And I'm sure that Oskar never wanted his work to be put on the internet, even though he died before the computer was even invented. So anonymous please don't hide behind the respecting the artists' work and intent excuse, just come out and say we have the rights and we want to make money off of Oskar's work and everyone will be happy.
