Toboggan: Still Loving You Forever
It's been awhile.
A lot has happened since Toboggan's last post... Michael Jackson died, Tiger Woods has fallen from grace, and- of course- Adam Lambert dropped his creepily covered 'For Your Entertainment' (sorry Adam, but you just can't pull this off). Yes, it seems as if things have been falling apart all around us- that a world without Toboggan is a dark and desolate place- but that's simply not true.
Toledo has a new Hockey team, Winter Wonderland is apparently still on, and Homage keeps producing those awesome Surf Ohio shirts (above). In fact, there's so much good news, Toboggan's Toledo offices have been seriously considering a comeback.
Let's see how much we can squeeze into one post, shall we....
I'm not sure who's involved with this, but looks like Toledo has it's own little Pop Up Shop. All the rage over in England for awhile now, I haven't seen any around these parts, so this is exciting (please correct me if I'm wrong).
The Museum has a Chihuly exhibit, a Graphic Novels exhibit, and an exhibition on children's book illustrations. We should never forget how fortunate we are to have this institution in our town- in fact Toboggan got pulled over last week and definitely tried to sell the cop a Museum membership (this is highly encouraged).
Been digging Fujiyama Mama (below), apparently Ernestine Allen was born in Illinois, but raised by her grandmother right here in Toledo (gotta love that), the song actually charted by Wanda Jackson
BGSU's annual record sale is this Friday, Dec. 11. I will be looking for the TeenWolf soundtrack (do you have any idea how hard that has been to track down?)
...and of course, the biggest news: Toledo Toboggan made a new post. Maybe we should keep our fingers crossed for tomorrow....

Shine on...
Also tonight, Toboggan's dear friend Jules Webster will be having a holiday sale at Manhattan's Restaurant & Bar. I've had the privilege of seeing her current works, and I have to say she never ceases to overly impress me with her talents. Stop by, and pick up a unique (and way cool) Holiday gift for a friend or family member. Works by Kelly J. Lever and Carl Oxley III will be on sale, as well.

See and Be Scene
Again, somewhat short notice, but tonight is an excellent night for a live show! You may have to drive carefully, but it will be worth it. Detroit's The Hard Lessons are playing at Mickey Finn's Pub! The first time I saw this band I had never even heard their music prior to the show, but they still got me dancing. Basically, straight up rock and roll that makes you want to sing along. Do NOT miss this one!

Winter Wonderland
Growing up in Toledo, the Lights Before Christmas are something I looked forward to every year. Sure, it's pretty cold, but if you have a hot chocolate (or a hot toddy?) and a few friends, it's completely worth it to go check out the lights and catch the spirit. The Lights boast over 1 million (yes, this is true) Christmas and LED lights, 200 animal images, and many other features to draw you in. Not to mention, that freaky tunnel of moving lights that just won't let you walk in a straight line. Check out the train sets and enjoy the carolers. Tis the season! Well, almost.
More info on the attractions (ice sculptors, Santa) here.

Free Answering Machine Music!
I haven't been to Woodchuck's in ages, so I was glad to find out that it's still open and slinging cider to thirsty Toledoans. Not only is it open, but there's an awesome show down there tonight...and it's FREE!! Not sure what time it starts (8pm, I think), but 4 bands will be playing:
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone [Chicago - http:
Concern [Portland - http:
Seeping Matter [Toledo - http:
Blithefield
I heard about Casiotone for the Painfully Alone a few years back and can only describe it as electrocute synth pop. It's the beats and keys solo project of film school drop-out Owen Ashworth. Definitely worth checking out, and it's free, no excuses!

Get your hip hop fix!
TONIGHT!! and you even have two options:
Option 1: Old School Friday's @ Wesleys Bar & Grill w/ residents N. Mattimoe and Folk. Tonight is special in that DJ apb (who used to tour with option 2) will be gracing us with his presence by coming in from Chi-town to do a DJ set. Hip hop, funk, soul, dance, you name it. However, DON'T, I repeat, DO NOT request the Beastie Boys from apb, though...it won't be pretty. Get out and shake yer ass. 10pm. 1201 Adams.
Option 2: Grand Buffet at Frankies Inner City! Out of Pittsburgh, this band never ceases to put on an excellent show. Plus, you can always expect their witty banter in between songs. Should be fun considering the election results and their anti-Bush sentiments! $5?

The Bloodsugars will be playing tomorrow night (July 8th) at Frankie's. For some reason it's not on Frankie's website, but thanks to a hot tip, Toboggan is trying to get the word out.
The Engine Room Recording artists have new video out (above), for 'Purpose was Again'. Definitely worth checking out, at least according to all those little quotes on their MySpace page.
